Last night was the conclusion of the Bountiful Gardens vegetable gardening class at Clark Gardens. We celebrated with a feast of course, featuring fried chicken and many of the great vegetables harvested from the gardening plots.

Squash and zuchinni are in fill production now. Peppers and tomatoes are just now getting ready to pull. Several people have harvested beans and peas. And of course onions and radishes.

Here is Carol with her harvest from last week. The class was Carol’s idea. She used to walk by a community garden when she lived in New York.

Leanne was our illustrious teacher and kept a plot of her own too.

Some of the gardeners with the fruits of their labor.

Several gardens have radishes and onions ready to eat now. Tomatoes are starting to show up and squash and zucchini are ready to pull in a couple of cases.

Because the gardens are too small for corn and pumpkins it was decided to plant them in a common space all to themselves. The plot was improved by Clark Gardens employees and the students planted the seeds under Lee Ann’s direction.

Afterward we retired to the shade of some nearby mesquites and enjoyed hot dogs topped with some of Carol’s chili along with side dishes and desserts that had been brought for the occasion.

I missed the fourth class because I was away on a fishing trip but everyone said the speaker was very good. He talked about fertilizing for one thing and I noticed that several people seemed to be using fertilizers on the fifth class. Just about all the plots are planted and edged now. Carol started off the fifth class by announcing that one of the class members had set up a forum for members to discuss their individual gardens.

Melody, facing the camera, surveys her plot. She has plot number 1.

Some of the plots are getting rather decorative.
