bringing back the light
Last night was the longest night of the year, the Winter Solstice. To commemorate we gathered with 600 other folks at the Cathedral of Hope for an annual ritual to bring back light to the world. Rituals on the Winter Solstice date back thousands of years, long before modern upstart holidays like Christmas.
Amy Martin puts on this show every year and it keeps on getting better. There is a sreaming video of the event here. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
corsicana

Temple Beth-El in Corsicana, built 1898. A once-prominent Jewish community has all but disappeared in most smaller Texas towns. Beth-El closed its doors in 1976 but has been restored as a community center. The rose window and the ten commandments below are by Tiffany.
