trudie

Trudie is my Mom and Dad's cat. She has been visiting in our house ever since they went to stay with my sister. Trudie has been the easiest cat to get along with that you can imagine. First of all she made the hour and half car trip up here with no more than two brief "meows." We almost forgot she was in the car with us.

Once she was here she did retreat to the closet for a day or two, but then she settled into Tricia's sewing studio like it was her own home. She likes to sit on the ironing board and watch Tricia sew or sit on one of the window seats where she can keep an eye on inside activities and outside goings-on at the same time. She doesn't seem much bothered by the other cats. She hisses at them if they get too close but doesn't move. She is big and she doesn't budge and the other cats seem to have an appreciation of that.

I wish I could say that things were going as well with my Mom and Dad over at my sister's house. Neither of them has been able to get comfortable there and they have done nothing but complain. Glenda is about to go batty trying to make them feel at home. It is starting to be apparent that it is not the perfect solution it appeared to be.

Sorry your sister & your parents are having a difficult adjustment......Have you all thought about an assisted living facility? Don't know about assisted living facilities where you are - here in St. Louis they can't build them fast enough. They come in all ranges of financial abilities for the residents. I have many patients come to my Emergency Room who live in such places & they all seem to like their living arrangements, the activities provided, the personnel, etc. It is something to think about............

I imagine it'll take some time for your parents to become comfortable. I'm sure they're going through a lot themselves, trying to get used to the idea. I do feel for your sister though. She's going to be needing a night (or two) out pretty soon.

Trudie is a beautiful girl. She *does* look big! I'm glad she's found and claimed her own little spot in the household.

Now, I have a favor to ask of you, if you don't mind. Sheilah from Sheilah's World is wondering what the yellow flowers are in the bouquet I posted on behalf of Kim's birthday. I haven't a clue and am sure you will.

Also, what the heck is the giant green slug/caterpillar thing that I just found in my garden? It's HUGE! And gross. (I'm such a novice.)

Looks like some type of hornworm or sphinx moth caterpillar, Leslie. Did you know there are over 10,000 species of moth and butterfly species north of Mexico? Most of the caterpillars are unknown even to scientists. Field guides usually only show the adult stages.

As for the flower I wonder if it could be an evening primrose? Looks like it has four petals, but I can't tell the size.

Dottie: thanks for the suggestion. That may well be the next option.

I knew you'd be helpful! Thank you :)

I was afraid of that. It is so hard for them to realize that they can no longer live alone. And if they dont have a "Living Room" that they can call their own and have some sort of privacy besides a bedroom it is doubly hard on both parties. It makes it seem too much like VISITING if they dont have their own space! Give your sister lots of support, she'll need it!!

That's a really good picture of Trudie. Grandma would be glad to see she's doing so well.
