kitty health

Our kitty Sable is in the hospital with a blocked urinary tract. He didn't show up at our bedroom window as he normally does in the morning and didn't show up for dinner either. Later I found him lying under an abelia bush.
The vet says his blood looks normal which means he hasn't suffered any permanent organ damage. It seems to be something like kidney stones. We will get an updated report on him this afternoon.
I had a cat that passed out in the litterbox. I took him to the Vet and it was the same thing your cat has. I had to put him on "low ash" cat food. Blue Mountain was the only brands I found at the time. I'm sure there are better ones now probably sold at the Vet's office.

Posted by: Larry Davis at July 31, 2004 04:42 PMOHHHH Poooor Sable. I hope he is ok. It is real common in Male kitties. He should be fine!
Posted by: Mary Lou at July 31, 2004 05:08 PMMy cat Lewes had a blocked urinary tract, too, and he had to have surgery to re-route the urinary tract. The vet told us he's technically no longer a boy, but not to tell him that! lol He made it through just fine, and is as fat and sassy as ever, but he'll have to be on special prescription food for the rest of his life.
Posted by: Lewesrat at July 31, 2004 07:52 PMSorry to hear about Sable's problem.....how old is he? I have 2 cats.....BigCat is 13 and healthy, Pixie is 9 and had surgery 2 years ago to repair a torn ACL ligament in her right hind knee - cost me big bucks but I couldn't see her limping for the rest of her life.......she is so precious, a lovey-dovey cat......unlike BigCat who I think is neurotic - he attacks willy-nilly - I guess it's a "male cat" thing.........:)

Posted by: Martha at August 2, 2004 09:35 AMBill -- our male cat Jake had the same problem. We've put him on the prescribed diet but still kept coming up with bad blood tests. The vet finally said something about she was sure she had told us to use litter that did not include baking soda. We used Arm & Hammer. No, we said. She gave us a list of approved litters. FYI.
