The “Laptop from Hell” is once again giving me fits. I’ve borrowed Tricia’s but of course it doesn’t know any of my files or my passwords.
It also doesn’t have my photos. For several months I’ve been intending to visit and write a post about Chandor Gardens in Weatherford. I finally visited but now I can’t access the pictures I took.
This laptop has had a problem with booting up practically since it was new. When I would call Dell for service they had me open it up and reseat the RAM cards, which used to do the trick. A couple times they sent new cards. I think they have had a lot of complaints on this model, because they extended my warranty without cost for a couple years. It’s more than five years old now though.
It’s been good for almost a year. But it started slowing down and I discovered it was only recognizing one of the RAM cards. And this is where I made a foolish mistake. I really thought it should have more memory anyway so bought a new card and installed it. Naturally it didn’t boot up afterward. I have been trying different combinations of cards but no luck.
Of course it did not occur to me to back up beforehand. I copied my pictures and documents to a portable hard drive about the middle of last month, so I only have a few weeks of stuff that are at risk.

Note to self: Set my computer to back up before I go to bed. Thanks!
Uh oh!
That’s the problem with digital cameras - so easy to download to Picasa, and use, but then I forget to make a disc and/or backups!
Geez I’ve been gone so long I think I’ve forgotten how to comment. I got an HP this time instead of Dell and it’s ok except it keeps giving me a blue screen of death every now and then. If you have to get a new one, do NOT get Vista64.
We had to get a new PC a month ago and it has Vista. When I download oictures it scatters them through existing folders and puts some in several new folders that it makes on it’s own.
I feel your pain, Bill.
Vista sucks so hard. I wish Microsoft would go bankrupt, then maybe we could look forward to product upgrades that actually work. (much as I am looking forward to cars that get get better gas mileage)
Yeah, I know, pipe dreams both.
