Today I have four oxblood lilies blooming and another is pushing up a shoot! I was just out looking for them two days ago and didn’t see a sign and now all of a sudden here they are, looking a little like freshly metamorphised butterflies drying their wings.
Actually one had bloomed in mid-August while I was on vacation according to my sources, and I had been afraid that that was all the bloom I would get.
These were a gift from MSS, whose Zanthan Gardens appear to be ablaze in them. Maybe someday I will have such a display as hers. I should take the laptop out now so the lilies can see her pictures; maybe they will be inspired to realize the potential within themselves.

I’m so happy that they’re blooming for you. I feel like I’m seeing my little children make their way in the world. I’m happy to hear about their progress.
I can always dig some more up for you the next time you manage to come to Austin.
Those are beautiful. I adore all types of lillies.
Your little display is beautiful in its own right. Sometimes a little can go a long way!
I call these school-house lilies because they come up in September when school used to start. I have these in my yard and several other yards on my dog walks through Bedford and Colleyville, TEXAS.
