It is so hot outside these days that I look for things to do inside.
So I’ve been experimenting with a new theme for this website. I’ve used this one ever since I switched to WordPress. I like some things about it but I’m ready for a different look. The new one will probably stay a single-column layout like this one is. I am definitely getting rid of the “gallery.” I never could get it to look the way I wanted and gave up a long time ago.
I may eliminate the picture from the banner. I was thinking of not even displaying the blog name on the banner. Do you think that would be a problem for search engines? Maybe not. The name of this blog is actually a popular quilt pattern and practically everybody who comes here from a search on that term is actually looking for quilts, or for a store in Kansas City by that name.
Beware - if you see some funkiness here in the coming days it is probably related to theme experimentation.
I did get out last week for a canoe camping trip down the Brazos. Basically a repeat of the trip last fall. Sleeping in the tent really wasn’t that bad; it’s the afternoon that’s the killer. No pictures, I left the camera at home.

hi! how have you been? i think it’s a great idea to switch things up, i love when things get a new look. in a worst case scenario you can always go back to the old look. i also have been trying to be productive indoors but have been having post-vacation blues. ugh. i don’t see how anyone could be unhappy being on the caribean ocean–it was heavenly. can’t wait to see what you do to the place!
There’s a store in Kansas City by the name of Prairie Point? Now I’m obliged to go look for it.
I just looked it up. Turns out not to be too far from my house, so just as soon as gas prices go down, I’ll drive over there!
We think it’s hot here…we can’t imagine the extreme heat of Texas!
Bill, I’ll have to get used to your site without the lake picture. I do like your font size.
One of my goals is to make it easy to read. I may change some more details but I like the way it looks myself. Linda, if you really like to look at the lake picture, you can find it on the “about” page. Pablo, let me know if you go that store I am curious about it myself
As long as you pay attention to line length, use black text on a light background, and don’t have a lot of flashing gifs or annoying ads, I like it.
I sort of miss the banner. However, as Edward R Tufte reminds us, “Cosmetic decoration will never salvage an underlying lack of content.” So banner, or no, I’m here for the content.
Ditto, here for the content. But I do love your photos!
Camping and canoeing the Brazos! I wanna go next time!
