I don’t even know how to begin to write about the Garden Bloggers Spring Fling. There were garden tours both big and small, discussion groups, food, a book signing, poetry, door prizes. And garden bloggers. In person.
You had to have been there.

Look at us all, with our cameras dangling from our necks. It was a well-documented event, but like you, I find it hard to summarize. There was so much of the personal involved that it’s hard to convey the sense of it beyond, “we did this” and “we did that.” Don’t you find?
Absolutely. I’m sure I will write more about it, or work references to it into other posts. I have 180 photos.
Yes. We look like a bunch of stereotypical Japanese tourists. Next time, we’ll have to hire a tour bus. I love all the pictures of people taking pictures. I’m also interested in reading (and seeing) the event through so many different perspectives. This is one “field trip” where the students are not reluctant to go home and write their reports.
I’m so glad we got a chance to meet and a bit of time to talk together.
Yes ! And I am glad I got to see your garden too.
It’s surprising me that even though I was right there in the middle of it all, I’m reading the posts as avidly as someone who couldn’t make the trip to Austin.
Bill, you were even more wonderful in person than on your blog and I loved being able to hear your voice. Please say hello to Tricia from me - and ask her what she’d have written on her nametag if she’d been at the greeting dinner at Matt’s El Rancho…the non-garden blogging partners were getting quite creative!
Annie at the Transplantable Rose
“Enabler” maybe or “Muse.”
I almost feel like I WAS there, after reading everyone’s blog posts about it.
Wouldn’t it be funny if people developed false memories of having been there as a result of reading about it ?
It was hard to write about it. It took me 3 tries just to get a title. It’s hard to describe the fun & fellowship of those 36 hours. I really enjoyed meeting & talking with you, & I look forward to seeing more of your photos. (What was I thinking in packing such bright shirts?)
what’s wrong with bright shirts? enjoyed carpooling with you.
It was something I’m so glad I was able to be a part of…simply wonderful.
there was such an incredibly high energy level the whole time.
Hi Bill,
I am glad you were there to provide a bit of diversity to our group! I hope you and the other fellows didn’t feel too overwhelmed with all the women!
You should recruit some of your pals to join us in Chicago. We’ll have a jolly time!

after countless garden tours and garden club meetings i guess i’ve accepted the fact that gardeners are more likely to be women. when you are interested in the subject it doesn’t really matter.
Well, get busy and post those 180 pictures for those of us in the far cold rainy NORTH that may never see SPRING again!!
it will be there before you know it
Friends keep asking me about the weekend and I can only say it was fantastic….how can you describe the gardens, the camaraderie, well the whole experience.
gail
it was more than the sum of its parts. something about the energy level, maybe.
Yep. Pick out a picture now and then and give us the highlights. We will eat it up, no question.
okay i will. I wish you had been there Jenn - you are another of my
oldestearliest commentors.I’m with you- sort of speechless about the weekend. I’m letting it soak in. The pictures just don’t capture the true beauty of the weekend which was all of the connections that could be made to other gardeners. Everywhere I turned, there was someone I wanted to get to know!
Bonnie - I agree completely
I felt the same, I couldn’t even begin find the right words to describe the trip — especially after I read so many other posts that did a far better job than I could have!
Bill, it was a real pleasure meeting you!
The pleasure was all mine, Anneliese. Maybe all of us together can manage to describe it.
Hi!
I feel very lucky that I was there & met you, Bill. Thanks for escorting me to see the pampered chickens. And yep, there I am at the top of the stairs getting ready to take the picture that’s in my blog of you taking the very photo of all of us. LOL!
Cheers!
Dawn
That is so wild that your photo is the same scene as mine taken from the other side.
Bill, I think I’m still overloaded too. Thanks for riding with me. It was wonderful to meet you. I hope you’re having a wonderful spring.
I really like your blog. Very insightful.~~Dee
Thanks Dee, I enjoyed carpooling with you. And I realized our gardens have a lot in common.
