the vegetable garden
Last spring the few veggies we grew had to share space with an assortment of flowers and shrubs in a long narrow raised bed along the edge of the shed.
This year they get their own bed. We weren’t sure just where to place it. The big problem was protecting it from predators. Last summer a tree blew down on the north side of the house and opened a sunny spot in the canopy. There is a little fenced off area there but the deer just step right over it. My solution is a second fence inside the chain link fence. It’s six feet high but made of almost invisible netting stretched between t-bar posts. Inside this second fence I built two raised beds, each 3 feet by 12 feet, with mulched walking areas all around them.
The result is shown above. You can barely see the netting except on the side nearest the camera. That plastic bag that seems to be floating in the air is tied to the netting on the far side. In the background is my storage shed with greenhouse on the end.

Looks great. You will love having a place just for the vegetables.
i think so. there just was not enough room in the other bed

Wow, you’re right–you can barely see the netting, especially on the other side of the veggie garden. So I take it that your double fence is working so far? (I see green sprouts…)
so far it seems to be working. keeping my fingers crossed.
