checking in

Uh oh, I guess I had better write a post. People have started to email me to ask if I am still alive.

We’ve been out of town again. This time to Fredericksburg. It seemed like everyone else was there at the same time. They happened to be having a big Christmas parade and festival while we were there.

We got back to discover that the kitchen range had expired in our absence. Don’t ask me how that can happen. None of the appliance repair people we called were willing to even look at it. I suppose it is a sign of one’s age when you think that something built in 1977 is practically new. Actually it was not just the age, it is also an unusual model.

And on top of that the coffee maker broke! And that was only 20 years old.

Life has been hard.

After I completely disassembled the coffee maker and still could not make it work, Tricia splurged and bought a fancy new one. And we found a local electrician who repaired our range. So now the kitchen is working again and I have coffee.

Now I can get ready for the holidays.

  1. Hi Bill – Philo always estimates the cost of something as if it were 1979, then has to recalculate.

I saw your comment at Phillip’s Dirt Therapy blog, but your link doesn’t work. And googling Prairie Point Journal brought up 2005 entries. Just thought you should know.

I applaud your effort to fix the coffeemaker and repairing the range. Our society has become disposable and we need to get back to making due even in little ways. Hope you are escaping this nasty weather down there.

Annie – Thanks for the tip. I was lazy and mistyped my own URL. And I know about the 2005 posts coming up. That’s what I was talking about in my last post. Why do my old posts on my old MT blog come up in Google before my current posts?

Linda – the thermometer is dropping like a stone as I type this. At least some rain is on the way.

I hesitate to ask how old your fridge is. :)

I shouldn’t talk though — I still have the blow dryer I used in high school.

Well my stove that was brand new when I bought the house in 1993 gave up last year, so now ALL of my appliances have now been replaced, so lets see how long THESE last! I think they build in a self destruct button. Hope theice storm passes you by!
