bloom day

Filed under: outside in the garden — 11/15/2007

A front moved in yesterday afternoon. The temperature dropped into the fifties last night but it was sunny and warm again this afternoon.

There are lots of salvias blooming but the most dramatic thing I have right now is the “copper canyon daisy.”  It is very similar to the mexican mint marigold that I grew in my old garden, but I believe it has a stronger fragrance in the leaves. The deer won’t even go near it, but the butterflies like it.

That reminds me of a coreopsis. It is a bright cheerful flower.

Right now it is snowing here but I don’t think it will stick. At this point it is a warm day if it hits 50F, so I think it’s funny that you consider the same temperature a cool night.

Last night it got all the way ldown to 37, so I may not be considering 50 a cool night much longer.

Thirty-seven is starting to flirt with the frost, isn’t it, Bill! Copper Canyon Daisy was essential at my last house because of the deer, but somewhere in 5 years of planting, clipping and weeding around it, I started getting a rash just touching it, so never planted it here. It still looks really pretty at a distance!

I love the golden color of your Copper Canyon daisy–it seems so appropriate this time of year.
