It started when I posted a comment on Kathy’s blog. I pressed “submit” and waited but the comment just went away. I submitted the same comment again and got a message that I was posting a “duplicate” message. But still there was no comment from me on the post. I gave up.

Later the very same thing happened when I tried to comment on Pablo’s site.

This time I decided to experiment. I tried posting comments on a variety of sites. The same thing happened on several more and I noticed they were all WordPress sites.

Then I tried commenting on my own site. The same problem! I checked the spam filter. Sure enough my comment had been flagged as spam.

Now I wonder how this happened. Evidently either my site address or my email is listed somewhere as spam. What’s with that? Do you reckon that someone dislikes me or one of my comments enough to label me as spam and get me black-listed by Akismet? And how do I clear my good name?

UPDATE: Looks like this has been fixed. Possibly thanks to the attention Shelley drew to it in this post. And she makes some good points about not needing a spam filter at all. Of course it really wasn’t my use of the spam filter that caused the problem, but it was probably somebody else’s mistake. Anyway, thanks Shelley!
