bloom day

This is an inherited plant from a previous owner of the property. It just opened this morning. Some kind of lily but I don’t know what. Anybody care to hazard a guess before I start searching through my gardening books?  I think you can see enough of the leaf and stalk below the flower.

But the real drama is not in the cultivated beds around the house but out in the pasture. We have about an acre covered in coreopsis. With occasional other flowers thrown in. Thistles for one thing. Blanket flowers, white yarrow, winecup and a few lingering bluebonnets and paintbrushes.

It’s a delight for the butterflies and other insects. I think their favorite though is the cactus blossoms.
