my first blog

Filed under: blogging and technology — 2/24/2007

I’ll tell you a secret.

I had another blog before this one.

It was a journal of serious political and social commentary. At the time I was recuperating at home from a medical procedure and spending a lot of time surfing the internet and reading blogs. I thought I could write as well as the other guys and the next thing I knew I had a site set up on Blogger.

It didn’t take me long to lose heart with my blog. The posts were really lame. They sounded good in my head but when I read back over the words I could see how unoriginal my ideas were. They were just other people’s ideas that I was regurgitating.

At least I got some rants out of my system. I look back at the words on the screen and am glad that no one was having to read it or listen to it. I don’t think most of us realize how much of what we say we know and believe in our heart actually comes straight off the tv.

I got only one comment. It was from an “a-list” blogger who objected to the way I had quoted him in one of my posts. As far as I know that guy was my only reader.

After a couple weeks I went back to work and started losing interest. Then I just stopped posting.

I still had the bug though.

Well, Bill, apparently you no longer have any problems with being an original! And you lots of comments…I’m glad you didn’t give up after the first blog.
