We woke up to a light snow this morning.  It was something of a surprise.  I don’t know how to measure snowfall but it looks like a couple inches.  The sky is cloudy and it is below freezing so it may be here a while.

Lovely. Austin received ice, mostly, with just a dusting of snow. The icicles on the eaves are the best ever, though. I have one over 15 inches long. I posted a short movie of the snow on my site and Pam/Digging has some marvelous photos of flowers encased in ice from her garden about 5 miles north of me.

Nice photo, Bill. Are the deer pretty tame?

  3. Bill:

The deer pretty much ignore us and we ignore them. They will come pretty close if you are quiet and remain still, or if you are walking in a direction that is not toward them. They have their own paths through the property and they tend to stay on them.

It’s kind of hard to get good pictures of them. The motion of raising a camera up to the eye seems to be something that they don’t like. Also you don’t realize how well their colors blend into the woods until you look at the pictures afterward. I took this picture from inside the house through a window.

Bill… you measure snow fall with a yardstick. Just stick it in the snow and see how deep it is. I take it where you are is not a place that regularly gets snow.

Or if the weather drives you to drink - you can use your hand laterally instead, perhaps describing it as ‘three fingers’ of snow.

We had deer at the last house and several times was sure my photo would be wonderful…this was pre-digital so it took some time to get the prints and realize the deer which was so prominent in the physical landscape was invisible in the photo.

Annie, Carol: I was thinking you had to melt it and measure the result in a rain-gauge.

LOLOL No Bill just use a ruler! or your finger…1 knuckle, 2 knuckles…

I think that’s the first time I’ve ever seen snow on your page. :)

Is this a Norman Rockwell on Texas mesquite or what?

Should be your Christmas card for next year!
