all about my desk

Perhaps you would like to see a picture of my desk? I have seen a few bloggers posting pictures and descriptions of their own workspaces lately.
There are a few unusual objects here. I don’t know why there are binoculars on the desk. Probably for no other reason than that is just where I happened to set them down.
On the shelf is an unusual clock with all the numbers settled at the bottom. You can’t see this but at the top it says “whatever!” Despite the expressed philosophy, it’s the only clock in our house that seems to keep the correct time. Sitting in front of it is a plaster wolf’s head that I painted as a project in Cub Scouts when I was about 8 years old. I came across it recently in a box of old stuff that my mother had saved. Funny the stuff that mothers save. That’s Mom in the picture.
The little bowl is filled with buckeye seeds. Fun to look at and play with.
To the left of the clock is my new indoor-outdoor thermometer. As you can tell it is 70 degrees indoors with a relative humidity of 32 and outdoors it is 39 degrees with a relative humidity of 65. I really like this thermometer. I am planning on adding a second remote so that I can have one in the greenhouse in addition to one outdoors.
The cat is not unusual. That is her regular spot whenever I am sitting at this desk. She likes to sit with her head resting on my right arm. Perhaps now you understand why my posts tend to be short and infrequent.
The cup of hot tea is also typical. Sometimes I like coffee in the morning, but Earl Grey is my usual drink. The little “mailbox” is a stamp dispenser and in front of it is a training disk for QuickBooks, which I should be studying.
The “inbox” of stuff that needs to be filed away or attended to is overflowing. That is not unusual.
Not pictured to the left is a telephone and a small tangle of wires. Who would want to see a picture of a telephone and a tangle of wires?
So there you have it. Now you know everything about my desk. Some people have suggested that a desk reveals a lot about its owner. What does my desk say about me?

As I sit here at my desk and look at the mess swirling around me, I can say that I’m impressed with how tidy you have kept yours!

It says to me that:
You’re organized
You have a sense of humour
You enjoy technology
You’re compassionate and loving, and
History is important to you
Am I close?

Is that one of those footed bowls! How fun!
Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Jenn - it _is_ a footed bowl. good eye. a gift from someone long ago.
CP - Pictures of buckeye seeds coming up in a future post.
Mary Lou, Leslie & Pablo - Tidy yes but not organized. I tend to sweep all the messy details into a desk drawer or a closet.
Once I worked with someone who had the neatest imaginable desk. There was never anything on it other than the thing he was immediately working on. Even the telephone was kept in his desk drawer. Of course there were no pictures, staplers or anything of that sort. When he left for the day the desk was a completely empty surface.

Your coworker was so tidy that he kept his telephone in his desk drawer? Yikes! Didn’t you occasionally have the urge to go in there and scatter paperclips, thumbtacks, and those little paper circles from the hole puncher across the top?
Your desk says that you are neat and tidy, but not to the extreme of your coworker.. and the fact that you let the cat snuggle with you, even to the detriment of your typing, says that you have a good heart.
