winter time is coming
Sleet started falling about 6 am here. Since then it has changed to snow, or what they call “winter mix” on the news. Our gravel road is white now. I’ll go out later and get some pictures once it builds up a little.
It’s interesting how quickly it has changed. Just a week ago most of our oak trees still had green leaves. At Thanksgiving we sat outside and admired the bright gold of the cedar elms. Now the elms are bare and so are most of the oaks.
Good thing we laid in provisions yesterday. Have I mentioned before that it is 52 miles round trip to the nearest grocery store? And guess what. That’s right, it’s down this road. Ah, the pleasures of the country life!

Might be a good idea to have an emergency kit in the back seat huh? Water, an emergency beacon, flares, and a boat horn for noise!

Lucky to survive that!
We had a similar incident along a very busy stretch of highway up here. They didn’t find the car until spring, when the fisherfolk came out. Very tragic.

I will have to clock the mileage next time I go grocery shopping to see if I beat you. Though, truth be told, there are closer stores available in an emergency, but they charge an arm and a leg, and that’s the only time we shop there: in an emergency.

Cold made it down here tonight, too. The high was 72.5F a minute after midnight. It got progressively colder all day. We just missed out on the “winter mix” (by about 30 miles, I think). I’m glad I don’t live in Oklahoma City. Looks like the whole line from DFW to Amarillo is a mess. Stay warm.

Sounds like the storm system we got a few days ago has finally made its way down to you. Our “winter mix” is just about gone; hope you thaw out quickly too.

That same storm reach all the way up to Kansas City too. I’ve already been out scraping the windshield before my brave and daring trek to the office.

Kathy, maybe I should have said “supermarket” instead of “grocery store.” There are in fact several stores closer to us which sell some groceries.
