Have you ever made an expensive mistake?
I’m afraid maybe I just did. Yesterday we had this set of doors installed to replace the garage doors. This is going to become Tricia’s sewing studio and one of her requirements is to have lots of natural light. There is only one small window in the garage now. A set of glass doors seemed like an easy solution to fill in the space and let in light at the same time.
Except that now that it is done I don’t think that I like it. It just looks so stark. I wonder if we should have chosen a different door? Maybe with a three-quarter length window instead of full-length glass.
Painting may help some. And some nice pots with plants in front of the windows.
But for now I can’t keep from having second thoughts.

Oh, sure, I’ve made expensive mistakes. But I think you can fix this up nicely. How about colorful cafe curtain type things on either the upper or the bottom halves of the windows. Or hang stained glass objects from in the windows. Etc.

It’s going to look great when you’re done with it, Bill! Paint, yes, and some really BIG pots would make a difference immediately - nothing puny. Could you grow star jasmine there? It’s evergreen and you’d get the fragrance. Some of the panes are stationary, right? With the full door, pots could bloom inside for winter. This doesn’t look like a mistake - it looks like an opportunity!

Those are nice, Bill. You could hang stained glass ornaments for some color, put in half curtains, plants in front would be nice — you have a world of possibilities.
Not a mistake–an opportunity.

Urm, um, I commented first and then read the other comments. Honest — great minds, not plagiarism!

I think it looks crisp and clean, not cluttered. I think you’ll grow accustomed to the look, especially when you’re wearing all of your fancy new clothes that she sews for you!

They look fine to me, Bill. Yes, a little decorating will help but I don’t feel that they detract. Rather they highlight the zone.

Hmmm I didnt see any picture, just the printing…hrmmmmm. But what is more important, does Trish like them? It is after all her room!

I think the doors look great, Bill, but I’m a bit of a modernist, and I like really simple, clean lines. Painting the doors and trim some color (anything other than primer white!) will soften their look considerably. Hanging sheer curtains would soften both the look and the light coming in. (What’s the orientation of this wall? If it’s any direction other than north, Tricia may find that the light in a room is a bit glary, since most of it will be coming from one side.)
