drought tree

Tricia and I were enjoying Sunday dinner in a local cafe when suddenly everyone rushed to the windows. Rain! Not just a light sprinkle either but a real gully-washer, as my Dad used to say. None of us really minded that we had to run outside to our cars without umbrellas.

Turned out there was not as much at my place ten miles away, but we did get a little. In fact we have had rain three days in a row here now. Not a lot of water but enough to cool things off and make it bearable to be outside. The land is showing signs of the drought. I am losing trees. You can see one of them in the picture above. This was a post oak. There are several more like this scattered around our property and some others that are not looking good.

They say this is a worst drought than the one in the fifties that locals used to talk about. I hope that this rain will be end of it.

I hope so, too. Do you think those trees are going into early dormancy or are they truly lost?

We got a bit in Austin, too. The temporary drop in temperatures was heavenly. Today it was back to 103.

We got about a 1/100 of an inch yesterday, but that is all, and it did not help at all. We really need rain too.
