ornamental

First of all let me say that I have no idea what this is, but I’ll try to find out. It grows on a multi-branch shrub that seems to like to be close to the water. It looks like some kind of Christmas ornament. If you know what it is let me know. Meanwhile I’ll see if I can find it in my field guides.

The geometry in nature is breathtaking, as is your photo, as usual!
You gotta tell us when you know what this little ornament is!

I could be wrong but it looks like Buttonbush - Cephalanthus occidentalis. A very good plant!

I was going to say Buttonbush too, but you should probably go with what Wayne said.

Very good then. I was just iding at a glance - ours only has little nubbins of flower buds right now.
Buttonbush is a favorite butterfly and bee plant. They do like it fairly moist, and that was a good clue.

Is it prickly or soft? Sure is pretty!
