giving up

IMG_0382.jpg

The following notice appeared in a local email list this week:

Sable is a small short-haired black cat with brownish overtones, who has already used up two of his lives.

He was a runaway when he came to our back door with a bloody tail. He probably got it caught in a car door or something and got frightened and ran until he got lost. Then he almost lost his life to a urinary tract blockage.

He is a sweet affectionate cat but we have given up trying to integrate him into our household. We already have three indoor cats and they refuse to accept him. He gets nervous around them and sprays (even though he has been fixed).

So although we hate to give him up we have to find him a new home. The ideal owner would be someone with experience with cats who has the patience to help him adjust.

We hated to do it. But really it will be best for him if something works out.

He is an outdoor cat now. However he keeps trying to get in. He dashes in when the door is open and we are distracted by carrying packages ets.

Also we cannot leave open any windows any more. He has destroyed all our screens.

Oh dear. You poor creatures, large and small. I hope someone takes him. He sounds like he just wants to be lover.

It’s a very difficult decision to make, but you’ve done your best by him. It is sad to realize things just aren’t working out and they aren’t going to get better in the current context.

I think you’ve done the responsible thing and I applaud you in making this difficult decision. Here’s hoping your cat finds a place more appropriate to his needs.
