happy birthday

It’s not my birthday, but the birthday of this blog was this week. I almost let it slip by.

It started out on Blogger three years ago under a different name. When I look back at the early entries they look pretty lame. Even lamer than they are now. I didn’t really know what I wanted to write about. But I wrote every day and mostly the posts began to focus on gardening and natural history. I changed the name and switched over to Movable Type. A little over a year ago I made a second move to WordPress. So maybe it’s really been three blogs.

It’s been a lot of fun. I’ve made some great friends. I think my writing has improved too. The discipline of writing every day was good for me but even better was having actual readers. (That still amazes me).

I’ve slowed down a little in the past year. It’s not so much that I don’t have anything to say as that I’ve been busier and some of the things I’ve been busy with are things that I haven’t wanted to write about. I don’t think I’ll go back to every day posts anytime soon, but I hope to write a little more often.

    I’m glad you didn’t give up on your blog even though you couldn’t write every day. So many bloggers start out with that ambition (I know I did) and then give up when they can’t keep it up.

    Well, I will continue to visit you every day to see if you’ve posted something new. I know how hard it is to keep up the every-day posting demand. Once I reach the one-year mark, I may lessen my frequency a bit.

    Busy is good.

    It’s always nice to drop by and find a new photo or a bit of text. It can be as comforting as sharing a cup of tea to know that all is well in our friend’s worlds - even if they are friends by internet acquaintance.
