bulletin board

Since becoming president of the local chapter of the Native Plant Society, one of the things I have noticed is a lack of a sense of community. Maybe that is because we live in a big city. It seems like the most active chapters of the society are in smaller towns, where they can have an impact on the community. Many of those towns depend to some extent on tourism, and wildflowers are part of their attractions. Or maybe people in smaller towns are a little closer to nature.

It is not the same here. Most member’s interests do not seem to extend much beyond their own front yard. I am not sure how to change that, or even if I need to be concerned about it.

Being a computer-oriented kind of person, one thing I have turned to is an attempt to build an on-line community. It occurred to me that a “bulletin board” or “forum” might be helpful, so we now have one. It’s open to anyone with an interest in the subject by the way, regardless of where you live.

  1. This sounds cool! I want to learn all I can about the native plants of the Big Bend area (and the prairie land here, too.)

    Field trips in the planning?

    I bring my own Claritin…
