another day older
Yours truly passed another milestone yesterday on the long journey to “so-called” Social Security, as some C&W singer used to put it. I went to work as usual, and then Tricia and I had a quiet evening out. It’s kind of scary getting old. I have taken to comparing myself to my own father and grandfather when they were my age. Do you ever do that? I am now the same age that my father was when I graduated college.

Happy Belated Birthday. I saw Mary Lou didn’t forget, even if she had to put a comment on an older post. It’s funny, but I haven’t done that kind of comparison with my mother. What my sisters and I have been doing is comparing my mother’s age to my recently deceased grandmother’s. As in, “When Grandma was the age that Mom is now, she was doing thus-and-so.” We generally concluded that we expect more of my mother than we did of her own mother at the same age.

I do that most often when looking at old photos… when I realize, “Hey, Mom was younger in that picture than I am now!”

Happy day!
Comparisons - yup. But, I fake myself out saying my generation has modern medicine and the fashions are much more flattering.
Uh huh.

Why did you have to say that? I’m slipping into Obsessive Mode and you’ve just given me material….
Happy Birthday, Bill!

Quiet birthdays are some of my favorites. Good wishes to you for a happy year of good health and much joy.
Yes, I do the comparison thing often. Gives one a whole new perspective on parents and grandparents, doesn’t it?

I do it the other way around. I look at my son and think, “Gee when I was his age, I already had a kid and was in the process of getting a divorce.” Then I’m relieved that he hasn’t made the same mistakes I did.
Happy birthday!
