THIS IS TRUELY A UNIQUE PLACE!!! THEY HAD THE BEST FRIED CATFISH AND GREAT MEMORIES OF ALL THE FOOD & ATMOSPHERE. A SUNNY DAY IN THE FALL WAS MY FAVORITE TIME, BUT ANYTIME IT WAS OUTSTANDING. I REMEMBER GOING TO BALL TOURNAMENTS IN MINERAL WELLS AND COMING THERE TO COOL OFF AND RELAX.

I have been hunting in Palo Pinto Co. for 9 years & even as a kid went on a few trips to Lake Palo Pinto with friends who had a lake cabin there... always had wonderful memories of the whole area. I like to try the different local restaurants when I'm there & Palo Pinto Cafe was my favorite. It was the one that I always went to when I had friends with me just to show it to them (along with New York Hill, tho PP cafe was my fav). I was in town to tour the old jailhouse museum just this past week & saw the real estate sign. I don't even think I knew it had been closed at that time. It was a great place with such a unique building, picket fence, the phone booth, vintage looking signs, good food; everything seemed so homey & comforting (except the straight back benches in the booths!). Sure hated to see it closed! BTW, Flossie's & Mary's, both in Strawn, are good... I can never remember which is which (they are across the street from each other) but in my opinion the better food, but not so much in atmosphere is the one on the east side of the road. I have been there on the weekend when there is a waiting line forming outside, especially true on weekends during football & deer season. Another good place to try is BJ's Mingus... It is a family friendly pizza parlor on one end, a bar right in the middle & one or 2 pool tables on the other end. Great Pizza! It also has pinball tables, video games & mounted game animals on the walls including a Mountain Lion.
