Joel Sax was one of the earliest readers of this blog when I started it about 30 months ago. He was in Ft Worth for a convention this weekend and I finally got to meet him in person.
I drove in and immediately got lost by going to the wrong hotel. Eventually I got straightened out though and we got together. We walked around downtown Ft Worth, which Joel decided he liked. He was especially taken by the angels in front of the Bass Performance Hall. Although I lived in Ft Worth during my teenage years, it is rare for me to see the downtown anymore. So it was a treat for me too. A cool front had blown in Thursday and it was just right for walking. It was something of a surprise to see how many people there were on the streets on a Friday night. We walked from the hotel over and around Sundance Square before finding a place to grab a bite to eat.
Joel was looking good and sounded very upbeat. If you haven’t been following his recent adventures you should go over to Pax Nortona and read about them yourself.
Actually this is my first time to meet another blogger in person. Joel said that I was shorter in person than he imagined. Well, he is a little taller than I imagined. But except for that he is just the person he appears to be in his writing.

Sorry we missed the fun! (But the margaritas at Tres Jose’s were yummy!)
Joel was ramping up into hypomania because of the steroid inhaler he’d been using for his bronchitis….ah the euphoria….I’ve got to work on that smile, Bill. It looks so cheesy on me.
What fun!
And that doesn’t look like a cheesy smile, it looks like a warm smile to me. I also like the ketchup bottle as a sort of exclaimation point with your shirt!
How nice to be able to meet a friend for the first time after having known him a while. I’ve had that experience as well and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Well, y’all can come over to my blog anytime….:)
Now for 2 years I have pictured Joel as short and CHubby. You mean he is TALL? And I pictured you as Tall and Thin, you mean you are SHORT?
Hey Joel!! Good to see you up and smiling again!!
I am NOT short. I am 5′10″ which is a little over average. I am thin however.
Joel must be several inches taller. I would call him thin too. But I think maybe he used to be a little heavier.
No, Mary Lou, I am tall and chubby.
Where did the short part come from?
Thanks bill for interducing me to Joel;I enjoy reading your blog and I enjoyed clicking over to Joel’s for a read. What Leslie said is true, if you meet a blogger, you will already feel as if you know them.
