We had 8 record-breaking days of 100+ temps before the cool front came in yesterday and dropped us from 106 to 88. I actually spent yesterday in the garden--the first time in months. This late hot weather has wreaked the same kind of devastation that a late freeze does on northern gardeners. By the end of August the plants (and me!) have had it. We hold on to the promise of rain and cooler temperatures in September...and then we get a September like this.

We got a lot of Rita evacuees in Austin, but not a drop of rain. This weather is making me disgusted with the whole idea of gardening. I'm ready to move into a condo. (You'd think I be used to it; I've lived here 30 years and in the desert southwest before that.)

Well, a cold front came in last night and brought a smattering of rain and dropped the temps considerably. That makes me feel much better.

Patty, the Davis Mountains are mighty purty as I recall. We are going to visit them again in October. It might change my mind.

Joel, you should know I don't believe anything unless Rush says it's true.

Oh bill. You're not telling me that they convinced you of global climate change, too? :D

We got our earliest Santa Anas that I can remember last night. Check my blog to see what it did.
