The weather is just gorgeous today. We had a good rain which cooled everything down and freshened the garden.
We have a little mini-nursery out back under the pecans. Our garden club was given some trees by a nursery that was going out of business. They are four to five feet tall and mostly in five-gallon pots. We have fifty of them and plan to sell them for $10 each to raise money for the club’s projects. We have four kinds - bur oaks, mexican oaks, bald cypress and red maples. The oaks look pretty good but the cypress and maples are not so healthy looking. I transplanted some of them into larger pots.
Response to the sale has not been overwhelming so far. It was announced at this week’s meeting and only one member stepped up to buy one. Only 49 left.
If only I did not have so much to do. We are still working on getting my parent’s place cleaned up and ready for sale. It’s an hour and a half drive away. That means we can only do it on weekends. It’s hard to get up and drive out there after spending five days a week in the office. I would much rather be outside.

Devil’s Trumpets? I have a big flowering plant with eggplant-purple stems and purple and white trumpet bloom, but we call it an angel trumpet…
But this one only blooms at night w/the full moon. It smells WONDERFUL, but it’s poison…hence Devil’s trumpet
Whatever it is…it’s PURTTY!!
devil or angel? I’ve heard it called both. This is Datura inoxia, also known as jimson weed. It is very poisonous.
The pecan trees are a good deal–wish I lived closer!
Still have those bur oaks and mexican oaks available? I’ll buy some of them. We’re in Dallas, but the land where they’ll be planted is in Fannin County near Bonham.
We had a small datura, or devil’s/angel’s trumpet, seedling by our barn. Grew to take over half of one side! had so many nightshade hornworm moths at night you could hear them munching. And the moths were fantasically large and flew like hummingbirds!
