cactus flower

It’s already too hot to do much in the way of gardening. I’m just observing what is still flowering, like these cactus flowers.

I notice that the bluebonnets have already gone to seed so I figure it must be a good time to sow them. I had intended to collect seed from the wild but I was too late. So I ordered a pound of seed and it arrived two days later. I have already sown nearly all of it. I saved back a little to put in the cemetary at Prairie Point next weekend. My mother used to talk about all the pretty flowers there when she walked past on the way to school. I would like for it to look like that again.

So pretty!! I love cactus flowers — reminds me of tough Texas ladies.

You might also sow more bluebonnets in about October or November. That’s when I’ve had the best luck. They sprout in December or so down here.

I love to see those blue fields of Blue bonnets when they are all in full bloom! I bet the cemetery will look so pretty next spring!
