Rats in the attic and now an armadillo under the deck. I was drinking my morning coffee outside when I spied something moving between the spaces of the boards and I stepped over to the edge to wait for it to show. After a while I heard a rustling in the bushes and finally it peeked out and wandered slowly in a circle for a couple of minutes until it noticed me and then made a clumsy dash back under the deck.
My neighbor says he killed a copperhead last month hiding around the outside water faucet. Yesterday out by the lake I was just about to step down to the water when Tricia pointed to a water snake lazily making his way to the same spot. I stepped back and let it swim past. Later we tried to remember how to recognize a moccasin.
At least I don’t have to worry about rattlers. I’ve still got Mr Roadrunner on guard.

Definitely want to eliminate the rats but I’ve heard that armadillos are a beneficial critter to have around…and lucky to boot.
Besides, armadillos are one of my favorite animals, so hopefully you can get us some nice pics.
Reminds me of the cute Batty Koda’s rhymes on “Fern Gully”:
Yo, the name is Batty;
the logic is erratic.
Potatoes in a Jacket,
Toys in the attic…
I rock and I ramble…
My brain is scrambled.
Rap like an animal…
But I’m a mammal… [laughs crazily…]
I’ve been brain fried…electrified…
Infected and injectified…
…Vivisectified…and fed PESTICIDE [screams…]
My face is all cut up
‘cos my radars’ all shot up…
Nuurse…I need a check-up from the neck-up…
I’M BATTY!!!!!
They used and abused me…
Battered and bruised me…
Red wires, green wires…
STUCK’EM RIGHT THRU ME!!!!
So, hear my batty word…
And exercise a little prudence…
When dealing with…HUMANS!!!!
