In case you haven’t noticed I have moved my blogroll off the front page and onto a secondary page. If you are interested you can see it by clicking on the “links” item on the navigation bar. When I moved this website over to WordPress and redesigned it, getting the blogroll off the main page was one of my design objectives. I don’t use it anymore and it looked messy so I considered getting rid of it altogether, but I changed my mind.
Almost from the beginning of my blogging experience I have had mixed feelings about the blogroll. Back then my blogroll really was the list of blogs that I read regularly. I went down the list daily and clicked on each one or at least the ones with the asterisks denoting they had been updated. But there has always been a kind of game aspect to it also, in which some people compete to see who has the most links. I have never wanted to either participate in that or aid anyone else who did.
Nowadays almost everyone I read has an RSS feed and I read them on Bloglines. My real list of blogs that I read is over there. When I remember to I keep up this list here for several reasons. For one it is a somewhat comprehensive list of gardening blogs although not as thorough as Kathy’s list or Moosey’s list. That might be of interest to someone looking for gardening blogs. I think that is a useful benefit both to readers looking for good blogs and for the bloggers who are looking for readers. So I decided not to get rid of it. Now you know where to find it in case you are interested.
I have been reading a spirited discussion of the pros and cons of the blogroll recently. For example here in case you want to know more. I can see good points on both sides. I guess my compromise is to put it on a separate page.

I Link to blogs that I read often. I do my blog walk from my favorites list in IE. I forget about updating all the time.
