While going to school in San Francisco in 1970, I discovered that
people thought I was from Northern California because of my TV-bred accent
(or lack thereof), in spite of having lived all my life in North Texas,
with more than a few of those years working on a true ranch-ette in
Grayson County.

I called my Dad, and asked him to send me some of his favorite Western
Music... and a pair of Acme Roughout cowboy boots.

I had to move to the Bay Area to discover (develop) my
hardscrabble-texas roots... and appreciation for same.
