This is another plant from the southwest that has recently become very popular. The proper name is Tecoma stans, Another name is yellow bells. It is winter hardy in zone 8 and can make a shrub up to 5 or 6 feet.
Mine is about a year old and is in a medium-sized container. I intended that to be temporary, but when I tried to move it in the spring I found that the roots had grown out through the drainage holes and into the ground.

Esperanza! hope! and it must be named right if it self planted through the pot into the ground!!!
In past years mine did not overwinter, but this past year I’ve had a very good bloomer come back from the root stock from last year; another one grew from seed in a pot, but has never bloomed. In Austin the Esperanza grows bigger and seemingly with more blooms than here in Tarrant County. Esperanza used to be– 5 years ago– relatively rare here. Now it readily available at Lowes and other “nurseries.” It photographs more easily than Turks cap.
