mountain sage

Pa230025.jpgA few weeks ago I showed a picture of Salvia regla or mountain sage when it first started blooming. However I believe it deserves another look now. The name “regla” is believed to come from the town of Regla in the Mexican province of Hidalgo. It needs pruning because it so top-heavy. According to salvia expert Betsy Clebsch it is best to do while the plant is in flower, although I hate to do that.

It has been very warm and dry here the last couple of weeks. Today we reached a high of 91. Change is in the air though and by tomorrow night we are expecting showers and temperatures in the mid 40’s.

I have several outdoor chores I need to do tomorrow before the rains start. I still have some iris bulbs that I should have put in the ground long before now and some other transplanting to do. I am still working on filling in the new flower bed on the south side of the driveway.
